Research Journal, Part 4: Types of Information

Practice Questions(Provide answers/sources for each of these)

1) Is a vegetarian diet healthier than a meat-based diet?
I would use the Web sites for a overview, then use a Academic Journal to get more in-dept, and the database on health, and even a book on healthy eating

2) Target often forces musicians to alter lyrics in order to have
their Cd's sold in Target stores. Is this censorship?
For this one I would use Web Sites to get started, then Popular Magazines, and even use people for expert opinions, and views on the topic.

3) How much more can a college graduate expect to earn over
someone with a high school diploma?
With this one I would start with Popular Magazines since I think this answer to this question can change over time, I would also use Web Sites, and maybe the Academic Journals for more professional research and statistics.

4) Should educators use commercial services to combat
plagiarism?
This question to me would be more leaning towards Academic Journals, for more written info by scholars.

5) Is the current lack of sunspot activity affecting global
warming?
I would use the Academic Encyclopedia, probably lean towards a Science Encyclopedia, then from there check out a book. There is also the chance I can find something about this topic in a Popular Magazine such as a Science Magazine.

  1. Hi, Cynthia:

Thank you for your efforts. You did a good job matching up resources with the questions they could best answer. Understanding the difference between resources and what information/ideas they contain can save you time when you start your research.

    Cheers,
    Andrea
